Case Study: Holiday Inn, Gloucester

A Bright Solution helped the Holiday Inn to achieve its sustainability goals by providing an innovative solution to reduce its carbon emissions, energy costs and dependency on the National Grid. Through the installation of a pair G-GEN™ combined power and heat engines, the hotel was able to generate electricity on-site, capitalize on the heat released during the generation process and achieve significant savings in energy costs.

The challenge:

The Holiday Inn, like many other hotels, faced the challenge of reducing its carbon emissions, energy costs and dependency on the National Grid. The hotel industry is heavily reliant on energy, and with the ongoing fight against climate change, it is crucial that hotels take steps to reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, the energy markets are influenced by global, political and socio-economic factors, and the hotel was looking for a solution that would provide more stability against these fluctuations.

Our solution:

A Bright Solution stepped in to help the Holiday Inn meet these challenges. We proposed the installation of a pair G-GEN™ combined power and heat engines. The G-GEN™ 50 engines generate electricity on-site and capitalise from the heat that is released from this generation process. The hotel utilised two G-GEN™ 50 engines, which were built in the factory and test run before being disassembled, delivered and re-built on site in the hotels compact plant room.

The result:

The installation of the G-GEN™ 50 engines has had a significant impact on the hotel’s energy costs and carbon emissions. In just over two months, the engines have generated over 115,000 kWh’s of electricity & 227,970 kWt’s of heat. Additionally, the hotel will benefit from a reduction in its carbon emission by an impressive 179 tonnes per year. By utilising the innovative G-FUND™ finance mechanism, the hotel can benefit immediately from the great savings in energy costs. The hotel is now more stable against energy markets that are influenced by global, political and socio-economic factors, and has done their bit to fulfill their green responsibility and support the fight against climate change.
